The History of the Black Student Union
The Black Student Union (BSU) has a long and storied history dating back to the 1960s. The BSU was created to provide support and resources for Black students at the University of California, Berkeley. Today, the BSU is one of the largest and most active student organizations on campus, serving as a voice for Black students and advocating for their interests.
The BSU began as a small group of students who wanted to create a space to share their experiences and connect with other Black students. Initially, the BSU operated out of a dorm room but quickly outgrew that space. In the early years, the BSU focused on providing support and resources for Black students on campus, such as providing financial aid and organizing events.
Over the years, the BSU has continued to grow and change. BSU advocates for Black students today, fighting for their rights on campus and beyond. They have worked to create a more inclusive and diverse campus environment and helped raise awareness about issues affecting Black students. The BSU is a vital resource for Black students at UC Berkeley, and they are proud to have played such an important role in the history of the University of California, Berkeley.
