Preschool Cutting Activities for Practicing Motor Skills
Preschoolers love to cut! And with a little practice, they can develop fine and gross motor skills while having fun. Here are some fun preschool cutting activities to get your students started:
1. Create a “cutting” quilt. Cut pieces of fabric into squares, triangles, or other shapes. Sew the pieces together to create a quilt.
2. Cut out fun shapes from construction paper and paper bags.
3. Let your preschooler paint or draw a picture of a character cutting things with a knife or scissors.
4. Give your child a large piece of paper and let them cut out shapes with a sharp knife, using only one hand.
5. Cut out pieces of paper into different shapes and colors. Hang them up to create a “cut out” art project.
6. Have your child cut out squares, rectangles, or other shapes from foam board.
7. Cut out eighteen-inch squares from construction paper and have your child use a glue stick to attach them together into a “grid”. Then have them cut out different shapes from the grid.
8. Cut out large pieces of fabric and have your child glue them together into a “cloth” pattern.
9. Cut out a large piece of fabric and have your child glue it to a wooden frame. Then have them cut out different shapes from the fabric.
10. Cut out circles from foam board and have your child glue them together to create a “circles” game.
