1. Malala’s father is an education activist. Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, is also an advocate for education in Pakistan. He ran a school that Malala attended, and he encouraged her to speak up for her rights and the rights of other girls.
2. Malala began speaking out for girls’ education when she was just 11 years old. In 2009, the Taliban took control of Pakistan’s Swat Valley, where Malala lived.
