Reading is one of those fundamental skills that are hard to live without. We need it to read road signs, to review paperwork, pay bills, etc. That’s why when a child experiences reading difficulties, getting them back on track has to be a top priority. If a child can’t read, then it will be nearly impossible for them to succeed in other subjects, such as science or social studies.
What do you do when a child is experiencing reading difficulties? The first thing we have to do is to find what is causing their difficulties. We need to find out if they are having a problem with decoding or word comprehension. Once we do this, we will be able to provide further supports and resources. Below, I have posted a roadmap for identifying reading difficulties.
