1. Early Life and Education
Julius Caesar was born in a noble family and received a good education. He studied literature, arts, and philosophy. Caesar was also trained in combat and learned how to ride a horse and use weapons.
2. Rise to Power
Caesar was a skilled politician who quickly rose to power in Rome. He became a consul in 59 BC and later was appointed governor of Gaul, a large territory in modern-day France. His military victories in Gaul made him famous and strengthened his political career.
3. The Crossing of the Rubicon
Caesar’s success in Gaul made the Senate nervous about his growing power. The Senate ordered him to disband his army and return to Rome. This was against the law as generals were not allowed to enter Rome with their armies. Caesar defied the Senate and crossed the Rubicon River with his army, which led to a civil war in Rome. This event is known as the “Crossing of the Rubicon.”
4. Dictator
After winning the civil war, Caesar became the dictator of Rome. He made significant reforms that benefited the common people. He also introduced the Julian calendar, which is the basis of the modern calendar we use today.
5. Assassination
Caesar’s dictatorship angered many people in Rome, and on March 15th, 44 BC, a group of senators assassinated him. This event marks the end of the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Roman Empire.
